I really can’t remember seeing these on the streets. In those days all Dutch taxis were Mercedes anyway. I sincerely doubt this was different in the country of this back-ground.
It appeals to me though!

We had these in Finland but now only few remain. Still probably a lot higher percentage than Japan has left.

There were some Cedric taxis in Finland but I think Mercedes and Volga were more popular here as well.

I wonder how much rust ‘surprisingly healthy’ means. I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen one that wasn’t very rusty.

1st gear in the 4 speed manual coupled with that 4.11 final drive ratio must make for the rev counter to go up quite quickly in relation to the speedometer.
